“My mother had experienced some serious health issues that changed not only her life but the life of her adult children as well. My experience as I visited with her weekly in the nursing home allowed me to see lots of things going on that were not right for some residents there. I saw a phone number for Pro Seniors posted in the facility and contacted an ombudsman who shared with me what they do. I was thrilled to know that residents had options, and I wanted to be able to advocate for them. I joined Pro Seniors as a volunteer ombudsman and was able to see residents become empowered to speak up for their rights!”
Last year at this time we introduced you to Carolyn, our AmeriCorps ombudsman volunteer. Carolyn says, “I am so grateful for this organization and how it has impacted my mother’s life in a positive way!”
#WhereAreTheyNow Carolyn has now joined the staff ombudsman team at Pro Seniors where she is the primary Intake Ombudsman, assisting callers who have questions or concerns about their rights and their services in a nursing home. Carolyn understands from first-hand experience the importance of knowledge, information and clear communication in achieving quality care and quality of life.
Please consider a gift to Pro Seniors’ Rhonda Y. Moore Fellowship to support a stipend for interns who will learn alongside seasoned professionals at Pro Seniors. Gifts are also welcome to support Pro Seniors’ advocacy for Ohio seniors, like Carolyn’s mother.
